Let’s Talk About Modern Boudoir (It’s Not What You Think)
If the word "boudoir" gives you the ick, or makes you think of uncomfortable poses, feather boas or strings of pearls - I have some good news for you. That’s categorically NOT what we’re doing here.
I get asked all the time: "What actually is boudoir photography?” My favourite answer? It’s simply a celebration of you, exactly as you are right now. No performance required.
It’s About Connection, Not Perfection
In the past, boudoir might have looked more like someone in dress-up, with pin-up inspired outfits or lingerie you’d never ever wear. You’d put on a persona and hope the photos turned out "sexy."
Modern boudoir has flipped that script and today, it’s about authenticity. It’s about catching those moments where you’re relaxed, breathing easy, laughing out loud and just feeling totally at home in your own skin. We aren't looking for "perfect" - we’re looking for the real you. We create a space where you don't have to "try" to be anything. You just have to be.
What Does a Session Actually Look Like?
If you’re worried about feeling awkward, don't be. Here’s how we remove the icky bit:
Wear What Feels Like "You": Yes, bring the lace undies if you love it. But also bring your favourite oversized sweater, a crisp white shirt, or even your partner’s well-loved, scruffy blue jeans.
Natural Light & Gentle Posing: At Narrative London, the studio is filled with beautiful natural light, so no need for bright flashes or feeling like you’re being ‘papped’. And no body-contorting poses, only shapes that feel natural to your body.
A Space to Just Be: This is your time to step away from the noise of daily life; the work, the kids, the to-do lists - and just focus on yourself for a few hours. This is YOUR time, and you deserve every second of it.
Most of my clients aren't models. They are women celebrating a 40th birthday, marking a big life change, or finally deciding that they’ve spent too long hiding from the camera.
The goal of your session is to give you a set of portraits that make you say, "Oh, there I am. I forgot how incredible I look." Or “is that really me?”. This is your story at the end of the day. My job at Narrative London is to help you see yourself clearly, to reconnect with something you felt you lost, and to just love yourself.
